Why Are There Streaks On My Gutters?
Gutter streaks, known as Tiger Striping, are caused by dirt, pollen and pollution build-up on the top lip of your gutters.
When moisture is present, it combines with the dirt mixture and streams down the face of the gutter. It follows the same path every time, leaving a trail of grime that has the look of tiger stripes.
This is not a failure of the paint or your gutter system. It is a natural process that can happen to a variety of surfaces such as cars, metal roofs, and even the siding of your home.
Learn how to get rid of it or prevent tiger striping in the first place.
How Do I Wash Dirt or Stains Off My Gutters?
Sometimes, the outside of your gutters get dirty with tree sap, insecticide, caked-on dirt, or tiger striping from the first of our FAQs, and don't look their best.
You can wash them using a non-abrasive household detergent with a soft rag, sponge, or soft bristle brush with a long extension handle. Do not rub vigorously. Rinse immediately with a freshwater garden hose.
For stubborn stains, use a heavy-duty cleaner such as Fantastik. Do not use cleaners containing abrasive particles, ammonia, solvents, or paint removers.
Why Are There Faded Spots On My Gutters?
Fading, or an uneven blotchy appearance, is usually caused by the use of spray paint. It may have been used on your gutters for touch-ups or covering scratches.
Some contractors or DIY homeowners will even use spray paint to coat large portions of the gutter system prior to installation.
We strongly discourage this practice. Spray paint doesn't coat evenly, isn't durable, and fades quickly. The paint finish on our aluminum gutter products is baked-on enamel for lasting beauty.
You can also purchase a brush-on touch-up paint for accurate application of minor nicks and scratches if desired.
